Father and son Gary and Max Dewar came to Horseshoe having done mostly general coarse fishing and very little specimen carp angling, but they got into it with style as they managed eight carp between them in just 24 hours, including three twenties!
They arrived at Horseshoe at 10am with ready for their session with a view to getting an insight into the world of carp angling and maybe catching a few too. It didn't take long before we were into the first carp of the session as there were obviously a few fish in the swim we had selected. We got the rods out as soon as possible and not long after casting one of the rods belted off. It was Maxes turn to hit the first run and after a good scrap he landed a lovely mirror of 17lbs and a new pb
The rod was quickly cast back out and the next run would be Garys, however the swim went quiet as the afternoon wore on which gave us a good opportunity to go through a few things including spod and marker float use, casting and rig tying. As the action had stopped we decided to go in search of another bite and took one around to a swim I had baited up early that morning with a kg of 10mmDynamite Source boilies. A PVA bag was cast onto to pre baited spot where some fish could be seen feeding, and it didn't take long for one to slip up as the bite alarm signalled a take. Gary picked the rod up and bent into the fish which was trying to make it into some snags along the far margin. After a few minutes the fish was under the rod tip and ready to be netted, it turned out to be a lovely 16lb mirror and a new pb for Gary!
The fish was put back safely and we headed back to out swim to get the rods out for the night. With a spots baited up and the rods cast out we sat back to enjoy the evening and wait in anticipation. We were all woken by a screaming take a 2am as one of the rods signalled another take Max landed the fish without too much trouble. As soon as it was in the net one of the other rods signalled a take which Gary was straight on, I grabbed the other net and the fourth fish was soon landed. We weighed the first fish which turned out to be the first 20 of the trip at just over 20lbs it was another pb for Max! Garys fish was they weighed and turned out to be another pb for him to at 18lbs!
The following morning the action continued and more fish were landed including yet another pb for both Max and Gary a 22lber each! A perfect end to a really good tutorial that I’m sure Gary and Max will remember for a long time to come.
Gary very kindly sent me this email the next day: FANTASTIC: "Hi James, Thanks for a great 24 hours Max and I really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks again. Gary" |
