Andy Moseley came to Horseshoe just after all of the floods that hit the area. We were both worried about the effect the excess water entering the lake would have on the fish as just the day before the fish been seen swimming along the paths! The water had gone down enough to access most of the swims around the lake and we moved into a swim behind someone who had had a couple of fish the night before so it looked like a good bet.
I new about a gravel spot about 30 yards out I’d had several fish from before so Andy found the spot with a marker float. The rods were soon clipped up to the distance and cast out to the spot. Andy then spodded some bait out to the area and we sat back to wait for the action and tie up some rigs and PVA bags.
We need not have worried about the excess water in the lake as it didn’t take long for the fish to get on the bait and within an hour the first carp was landed! It was a lovely 16lb fully scaled mirror. Andy came to the session wanting to catch his first 20 so while not quite there a fish so early was a promising start.
The rod was soon clipped up and cast back onto the baited area. Half and hour later and the same rod signalled another bite. Andy picked the rod up and bent into the fish, it was just about under the rod tip when the other rod screamed off! Double hook up and welcome to Horseshoe!!! Andy past me the rod he had and picked up the other one, I managed to net the first one and the second fish soon followed.
After the flurry of activity it went quiet for the afternoon and as the evening came we got the rods recast for the night and spodded some more bait out. We sat out for the evening and were both a bit worried that the action was finished and as we turned in for the night we hoped for a few more fish. I’d only just got into my sleeping bag when one of the rods signalled another take. The fish was soon landed and as Andy was getting the rod ready to recast the other one was away with another bite. This is what Horseshoe is all about a said to Andy as he pulled into another fish.
This was very much the order of the night and no sooner had I got into bed then I was out again netting another fish. Andy landed his first twenty pound carp which was then followed by another and then another and by morning we’d racked up 13 carp including four twenties up to 24lb’s. Andy was blown away and couldn’t believe the session he had just had, absolutely awesome! You too could have a session like this by booking a tutorial with James Anderson Professional Angling Tuition.
